Ministry of Economy: Ukraine will not limit wheat exports in 2025/26 MY

The government has abandoned the idea of restraining foreign grain supplies due to better yields and weaker export dynamics at the start of the current season.

This was reported by First Deputy Economy Minister Taras Vysotsky in a comment to Reuters.

Ukraine does not plan to introduce any restrictions on wheat exports in the 2025/26 season (July-June). Over the past few years, the government has refrained from large-scale foreign sales in order to prevent a jump in bread prices within the country.

“We do not plan to introduce any restrictions on wheat exports this season. The harvest is higher than last year, and the export rate is lower,” Vysotsky said.

According to the ministry’s estimates, the gross wheat harvest will be about 23 million tons, while potential exports are about 17 million tons in the 2025/26 season. For comparison: in 2024, Ukraine harvested 22.6 million tons and exported 15.7 million tons in the 2024/25 season.

According to the Ministry of Economy, since the beginning of the current marketing year, Ukraine has already exported 6.8 million tons of wheat, which is less than the figure for the same period last season — 8.6 million tons.

USM previously reported that since 2022, Ukraine has exported more than 66 million tons of grain to countries of the Global South worth more than $13 billion.
