More than 14 ships were de-Russified in Ukraine

More than 14 ships that had Russian names received new ones at the Shipping Administration.

“More than 14 ships received new names. In particular, “Invincible Bakhmut” and “Steel Mariupol” will travel by sea and inland waterways from now on, the department noted.

The Administration also reminded that the ship’s name is assigned during the first registration of the ship in the State Ship Register of Ukraine or in the Ship Book of Ukraine and is chosen by the owner.

Changing the name of a vessel in operation is carried out at the request of the owner/shipowner in the following cases:

• changes of owner/ship owner;

• changes in the type, class of the classification society or purpose of the vessel;

• force majeure circumstances in which the vessel has fallen;

• if the name contains symbols and/or names that do not meet the requirements of the Law of Ukraine “On Condemnation of Communist and National Socialist (Nazi) Totalitarian Regimes in Ukraine and Prohibition of Propaganda of Their Symbols.”

USM previously reported that “Ukrainian Danube Shipping” is already registering the new Ukrainian names of the first 12 ships in the Shipping Administration.
