More than 58 million tons of cargo were transported by Ukrainian railways since the beginning of the year


From January to May 2023, 58.1 million tons of cargo were transported by railways of Ukraine. Compared to the same period last year, the result is 17.5 million tons lower.

In particular, 0.5 million tons were transported in transit (80% less than last year), in import — 2.6 million tons (reduction — 68.7%), for export — 24.2 million tons (–19, 9%), and in domestic traffic — 30.8 million tons (–11%). Valery Tkachov, Deputy Director of the Department of Commercial Work of JSC “Ukrzaliznytsia”, said this, writes Rail.insider.

In the nomenclature of goods transported by railway, the leader is grain and milling products. They account for 26% of the total. Second place was shared by coal and iron and manganese ore – 18% each. Another 15% is for construction materials.

Tkachev also spoke about structural improvements in the cargo vertical of JSC “Ukrzaliznytsia”, namely the separation of separate business areas – “terminal operator”, “port station service operator”, “railway weighing equipment service operator” and the formation of a “foreign operator/ carrier” for work on EU railways. According to the presentation made public during the event, the company will be called UZ Cargo Polska LLC.
