Moscow is increasing its influence in the Suez Canal zone under the guise of investments

Under the guise of “economic cooperation,” the Russian Federation is building a long-term presence in the Suez Canal zone, increasing its ability to circumvent sanctions.

Russia is seeking support for its initiatives in the Suez Canal economic zone and at the same time promoting the construction of the El Dabaa nuclear power plant under the auspices of Rosatom. This is reported by the Сenter for Сountering Вisinformation.

The idea of creating a “Russian industrial zone” with Egypt in the form of land and preferential conditions goes beyond trade — it is a bridgehead in the immediate vicinity of the canal, one of the key global routes.

According to the Central Intelligence Agency, Moscow has traditionally used such zones to consolidate political influence, circumvent sanctions, and build dependence on Russian supply chains. At the same time, the nuclear project creates a technological and financial tie for decades, changing the energy balance in the Mediterranean and North Africa and displacing alternative standards.

The department emphasizes that the strengthening of the Russian presence in the areas around the Suez Canal is a systemic strategy aimed at establishing itself in critical nodes of global trade. This means a potential increase in political and legal risks, as well as the vulnerability of supply chains crossing the Suez Corridor.

Also, as previously reported by USM, the Royal Navy fears that Russia could push the British out of the Atlantic for the first time since World War II.
