Negotiations on the renewal of the Grain Agreement may take place in Istanbul
Turkey seeks to revive the Black Sea Grain Initiative, and in connection with this, negotiations on the return of the Grain Agreement may take place in Istanbul.
“Technical negotiations between Moscow and Kyiv regarding the activation of the corridor may take place in Istanbul,” the Turkish Sabah media reports.
It is noted that Turkey, together with the UN, is working on project proposals to make the corridor functional. In addition, according to the publication, with a decrease in the amount of grain produced, a further increase in prices and an increase in the probability of famine in less developed countries are expected. Ankara does not believe that alternatives outside the Grain Corridor can be sufficient to prevent the threat of famine in terms of capacity.
“Desiring peace in the region, Ankara seeks to revive the Black Sea Initiative as soon as possible instead of alternative routes,” the message reads.
The publication also noted that 220,000 tons of grain were damaged as a result of Russian attacks within a month after the termination of the Grain Initiative. This volume was enough to feed 810,000 people for a year.
We will remind you that the Black Sea Grain Agreement was concluded in July 2022. For this purpose, two documents were signed: with the participation of the UN, Turkey and Ukraine, and separately – the UN, Turkey and the Russian Federation. The agreement was extended several times, but on July 17, Russia finally withdrew from the Grain Agreement.
