Neizhpapa: The Marine Corps will be used in amphibious operations
A new Marine Corps of Ukraine is being created in Ukraine. The main tasks of the formation are the protection of naval bases and ports, as well as the capture of bridgeheads held by the enemy.
“We are a maritime state, we have a very long coastline – more than 2,700 kilometers, of which 1,700 kilometers are the maritime border. Our entire coast, including rivers, estuaries, bays, and ports, needs protection. And the task of ensuring security or liberating these territories is entrusted to the marines,” Vice Admiral Oleksii Neizhpapa, the commander of the Navy, said on the air of the telethon.
According to him, the creation of the Marine Corps of Ukraine is a requirement of today. This formation should have a full-fledged management system, a set of weapons and military equipment.
“The main tasks of the marines are the protection of naval bases and ports, as well as the capture of bridgeheads held by the enemy. At the same time, even before the capture, a naval amphibious operation must be carried out – an extremely complex type of operation that is carried out at sea. This is a set of activities that are carried out even before the foot of a marine enters the shore. The Marine Corps cannot solve such tasks on its own,” said the vice admiral.
The Marine Corps will be armed with floating armored vehicles, and the means of delivery of this equipment will be the naval depot of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. After the capture of the bridgehead, further progress will require a certain independence of management and decision-making, for this purpose the Corps is being created.

According to the commander of the Ukrainian Navy, the number of personnel will be increased due to the creation of new brigades and other units — artillery, support, and support.
“All these plans are being implemented now, we don’t have time to wait for the end of the war,” concluded Oleksiy Neizhpapa.
As previously reported by USM, during the year of the full-scale war with Russia, the maritime potential of Ukraine increased several times.
