New Arctic tugboat “Captain Ushakov” sank in St. Petersburg

The vessel with a displacement of over 3 thousand tons sank right near the berth of the Baltic Shipyard, without waiting for commissioning.
In St. Petersburg on the evening of August 8, a new large tugboat “Captain Ushakov”, which was in the final stage of construction, sank. This is reported by Russian media.
The vessel, moored near the berth wall rented by the Baltic Shipyard, suddenly began to lean to the starboard side. Despite attempts to stabilize its position, the tugboat lay on the ground on the same side.
The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation has launched an investigation under the article “violation of safety rules when conducting construction and other work” and is investigating the extent of the damage.
Reference: “Captain Ushakov” is a modern tugboat with a displacement of about 3,200 tons, almost 70 meters long and 15 meters wide. It was launched in 2022 in Yaroslavl, after which completion and equipment continued at the Baltic Shipyard in St. Petersburg.
