“Noosfera” delivered a new expedition of Ukrainians to the “Akademik Vernadskyi” station
The icebreaker “Noospfera” delivered the 29th Ukrainian Antarctic Expedition to the Antarctic station.
According to the NASC, on the night of March 20 to 21, the icebreaker delivered a new expedition to the Antarctic station “Akademik Vernadskyi”, which should replace colleagues from the 28th UAE.
In the coming days, unloading of the vessel will continue. Since “Noosphere” cannot approach the berths of the station due to the topography of the bottom, all this will be transported by motor boats. The route runs from Penola Strait, where the ship stopped, to Galindez Island.
It is also noted that while “Noospfera” was traveling from Chile to the station, the members of the seasonal detachment had already started conducting planned research in biology, geology and geophysics. In particular, the first samples of phytoplankton were selected for the international project to study the possible distribution of silicones in the Antarctic.
It will be recalled that the icebreaker left for the Antarctic on March 15 from the port of Punta Arenas.
USM previously reported that the famous American actor and one of the UNITED24 ambassadors, Liev Schreiber, visited the “Noospfera” icebreaker.
