“Noosfera” departed from the Vernadskyi station with a Ukrainian expedition
The icebreaker “Noospfera” with the polar explorers of the 27th Ukrainian Antarctic Expedition departed from the “Akademik Vernadskyi” station.
At the Vernadsky station, the changeover of annual expeditions has ended. This is already the second rotation of Ukrainian winterers during the full-scale invasion of russian federation, the National Antarctic Scientific Center reported.
On April 7, polar explorers of the 27th UAE, who spent a year in the Antarctic, went home. Together with them, the members of the seasonal detachment, who performed technical and scientific tasks for several months, are returning.
Instead, the 28th UAE began work at “Vernadskyi”. For the coming year, this team will conduct geophysical, meteorological, and biological research, as well as ensure the life of the station.
For the second year in a row, the change of Ukrainian Antarctic expeditions is provided by the Ukrainian research icebreaker “Noosfera”. In March, he delivered from Chile to the station of the 28th UAE, and now with the 27th UAE and a seasonal detachment on board, he is on his way to the Republic of South Africa. On the way, on King George Island, the ship will also pick up a Polish expedition from their station “Artstovskyi”.
From Cape Town, the polar explorers will reach Poland by plane, and after that they will return to Ukraine by land transport.
