On the sea front: military and civilian sailors of Ukraine celebrate a professional holiday

In Ukraine, July 2 is celebrated as the Day of the Naval Forces and the Day of Workers of the Sea and River Fleet. Both holidays are celebrated on the first Sunday of July.

The Day of the Navy of Ukraine was initiated by the Presidential Decree in 1996. The holiday was celebrated for the first time on August 1, 1997 in Sevastopol. This date was chosen in honor of the first operational-tactical exercises “More-96” in the history of independent Ukraine, which took place from July 30 to August 1, 1996. On the same day, Ukrainian flags were solemnly raised on the former ships of the Black Sea Fleet of the USSR, which were transferred to the Navy of Ukraine.

Today, the holiday of the Naval Forces has a deep meaning for every Ukrainian. This is a special day to thank all military sailors who protect our country from the Russian invasion.

“Your fighting spirit, courage and professionalism were fully felt by the enemy. You showed the whole world that Ukraine will fight to the end, namely, to Victory! And every day, without doubt or fear, you bring it closer,” the military sailors in the Navy congratulated.

On the eve of the celebration of the Day of the Navy of Ukraine, military sailors took part in tactical and special exercises to repel the attack of enemy sabotage groups on the coast of the Kyiv Sea. This was reported in the press service of the Navy of Ukraine.

Currently, there is a special division of boats that was trained abroad on permanent combat duty. The units carry out operations on the water, and also cover the airspace over Kyiv. They already have a lot of downed enemy aerial objects to their credit.

Previously, USM wrote how in one night the Ukrainian military shot down 3 Shaheds from a boat.

“Congratulations to the comrades-in-arms who protect the maritime borders of the state, continuing to create the glorious centuries-old history of the Ukrainian Navy. We honor those sailors who met the Russian barbarians in the south of Ukraine in the first ranks and died a brave death defending Odessa, Kherson, Mykolaiv, Mariupol, Ochakiv,” the press service of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine wrote.

In addition, today is the Day of Workers of the Sea and River Fleet of Ukraine. The date of the holiday was set in 2015. The main goal of the celebration is the revival and development of the national historical traditions of the maritime community.

“On the day of our professional holiday, I congratulate everyone involved in the work of maritime enterprises: porters, sailors, freight forwarders, maritime agents, employees of state bodies and representatives of many other professions, who are currently holding the front of the domestic maritime industry,” said AMPU Chairman Yuriy Lytvyn .

The official emphasized that thanks to the joint efforts of the state, business and international partners, it was possible to overcome the consequences of the capture and blockade of the ports of the Azov-Black Sea basin. A big role in this was played by the increase in the volume of cargo traffic of the Danube ports.

After the victory of Ukraine, the cargo traffic of the ports will have much larger volumes, as the state will receive equipment and materials for the post-war reconstruction of its economy and civil infrastructure. The Administration of Seaports of Ukraine has a clear idea of how to cope with these challenges, Lytvyn emphasized.
