One month of “grain corridor” operation: conclusions

Today is one month since the beginning of “grain corridor” operation, which was launched from three Ukrainian ports as part of the Istanbul Agreements.

During one month, more than 1.5 million tons of food were sent from the ports of Odessa, Chornomorsk, and Pivdennyi. This was stated by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Also, as part of the “grain initiative”, Ukraine sent two ships of grain under the UN Food Program. The first, Brave Commander, left Pivdennyi port, and has already delivered 23,000 tons of wheat to Djibouti for the people of Ethiopia, which is experiencing the worst drought in the last 40 years.

The second “humanitarian” ship also departed from the Port of Pivdennyi, and is currently on its way to Djibouti with 37,600 tons of wheat for Yemen.

According to Stark Shipping, during one month of operation of the “grain corridor”, more than half of the food was exported from the port of Chornomorsk — 900.7 thousand tons; 474,400 tons were shipped from Pivdennyi port and 334,400 tons from the Odesa port.

Among the cargoes, the leader in shipments from the ports was corn: 1 million tons for export. Flour, food wheat, sunflower meal and oil, as well as barley, rapeseed and soybeans were also sent from Odesa, Chornomorsk and Pivdennyi.

During one month, Ukraine sent 20% of sea exports to Turkey — 337.1 thousand tons. Turkey does not suffer from drought and famine, but is one of the participants of the Istanbul Agreements, so it uses the opportunity to import food from Ukraine.

In addition, Ukraine sent products from ports to Spain, Iran, Egypt, South Korea, Italy, China and other countries.

In general, during this month of operation of the “grain corridor”, 139 vessels received passage permits. Of them, 77 received permission to arrive at Ukrainian ports, and 63 — to leave them.
