Over 2 billion UAH: environmentalists estimated the damage from the Russian missile attack on the port infrastructure of the Odesa region

Two attacks by the Russian Federation caused large-scale pollution of the Sukhoi Liman water area in the Odesa region.
This was reported by the State Environmental Inspectorate of the South-Western District.
Thus, on October 9, 2024, a large-scale leak of over 125 tons of sunflower oil into the Sukhoi Liman occurred, caused by the destruction of port infrastructure as a result of a missile attack. The amount of environmental damage, calculated by the inspection, amounted to 10 billion 900 million 368 thousand UAH.
“Exactly a year later, on October 9, 2025, the situation repeated itself. Due to the new destruction of the same facility, environmental damage was again caused. This time, the amount of damage amounted to 2 billion 745 million 890 thousand UAH,” the department reported.

The State Environmental Inspectorate emphasized that both attacks on facilities related to storage and transshipment caused significant damage to aquatic ecosystems.
As previously reported by USM, on the night of December 6, the Russians attacked the port of Pivdennyi.
