Pivdennyi Port handled the most cargo in 2024

Last year, Ukrainian seaports handled a record 97.2 million tons of cargo, while Danube ports handled 17.3 million tons, compared to 32 million tons in 2023.

Ukrainian seaports set a new record in 2024, handling 97.2 million tons of cargo. This significantly exceeds the 2023 figure of 62 million tons, according to the Ukrainian Seaports Authority.

The main drivers of growth were grain and ore cargo, which provided 60.3 million tons and 18.5 million tons, respectively.

The port of Pivdennyi handled the most cargo – 35.55 million tons, followed by Chornomorsk – 26.04 million tons, and Odessa port – 18.30 million tons.

According to the results of 2024, the total cargo turnover through the Ukrainian sea corridor amounted to 79.9 million tons, exports – 76.4 million tons to 52 countries of the world. The route was used by 3,138 vessels.

The USPA noted that the Danube ports played a key role in supporting exports, having transshipped 17.3 million tons of cargo.

“This emphasizes their strategic importance for the Ukrainian economy in the context of the need to find alternative logistics routes. The restoration of cargo turnover was made possible thanks to international support, effective cooperation between the government, state and private stevedoring companies, farmers and all participants in the logistics chain,” the report says.

It is worth noting that the cargo turnover of the ports of the Danube region decreased compared to 2023 (32 million tons). In 2022, ports on the Danube processed 16.5 million tons.

As USM previously reported, in 2024, Ukraine reached pre-war trade figures, exporting almost 130 million tons of goods worth more than $41 billion.
