Poland calls for the expansion of Baltic ports for Ukrainian grain
Poland calls on EU countries to help export Ukrainian agricultural products through the Baltic ports.
Poland is asking European countries to provide funding to increase the capacity of Baltic ports. This was stated by the Minister of Agriculture of Poland, Robert Telus, reports Bloomberg. Bloomberg.
“We need to help Ukraine, and we understand that. We are thinking about building ports that will be used exclusively for transporting grain, so-called agroports,” the minister commented.
In June, the export of grain from Ukraine through Polish ports increased to 260,000 tons. It is likely to grow even more due to Russia’s blocking of the “grain corridor”.
Earlier, Poland and Lithuania agreed to transfer inspections of Ukrainian agricultural products to the ports of the Baltic Sea in order to facilitate the export of grain from Ukraine.
At the same time, the Polish government insists that it will maintain the ban on the import of Ukrainian grain to its country.
“We need to build real corridors of solidarity through which Ukrainian products will go deep into Europe,” Telus said.
