Poland may transfer an anti-ship complex to Ukraine
Ukraine is negotiating with Poland to purchase an anti-ship missile complex.
Ukraine is negotiating the purchase of the NSM (Naval Strike Missile) coastal missile complex from Poland. Ukraine is considering the possibility of purchasing batteries of an anti-ship complex, or even an entire division. This is reported by the Polish publication Defence24 with reference to its own sources.
Two divisions of coastal missile systems are in service with the Polish army. Each of them consists of two batteries with 12 missiles. In addition to them, the complex includes command vehicles, mobile communication centers and target detection and tracking radars.
The main weapons of the system are Norwegian Kongsberg NSM missiles, capable of engaging ships and ground targets at a distance of more than 200 km. NSM missiles are difficult to detect and at the same time have small dimensions (total weight 400 kg).
The value of the potential deal is currently unknown, but in 2014 the Polish government ordered the second division of NSM for approximately $200 million. The missile complex and its ammunition were handed over to the Polish Navy in 2017.
Poland became the first country to adopt NSM in the shore-based version. Shortly after Poland, the missile complex was acquired by the USA, Romania and Latvia.
