Poland will charter eight gas carriers from HHI
Poland is creating its own tanker fleet for the transportation of liquefied gas.
So far, the state has chartered two out of eight gas carriers that will transport LNG to Poland from different regions of the world.
This was announced on Twitter by the chairman of the board of the Polish oil concern PKN Orlen, Daniel Obaitek.
According to him, ORLEN Group received two of the eight gas carriers ordered in the Korean port of Ulsan. With them, Poland will import LNG, primarily from the USA.
“Marine supplies already cover approximately 30% of the country’s demand and, together with the Baltic Pipe, are the most important source of gas for Poland,” Obaitek added.
Ships for Poland are built by the South Korean company Hyundai Heavy Industries.
The first two gas tankers were named “Lech Kaczyński” and “Grazyna Hensytska” in honor of the ex-president of Poland and a Polish politician who died on April 10, 2010 in the Smolensk disaster.
These gas carriers will be able to transport LNG to Poland next year, the next two in 2024, and four more in 2025.
