Poland will close its borders to Russian and Belarusian trucks
Poland will close its borders to Russian and Belarusian trucks from June 1. The relevant order was signed by the Minister of Internal Affairs of Poland.
Polish Minister of Internal Affairs and Administration Mariusz Kaminski signed an order on May 29 to suspend cargo traffic for Russian and Belarusian vehicles across the border of Belarus from June 1, PAP reports.
Thus, Poland will not let trucks, semi-trailers, trailers and semi-trailers registered on the territory of the Russian Federation or Belarus through Belarus “until special order”.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Poland prepared this decision, including sanctions against 365 Belarusian officials, in response to the imprisonment of the activist of the Polish minority in Belarus, the co-chairman of the Union of Poles in Belarus Andrzej Pochobut.
Minister Kaminsky ordered the preparation of sanctions in February, the day after Pochobut’s conviction. Two days after the verdict, Poland suspended traffic at the Polish-Belarusian road border crossing in Bobrovnyky.
In turn, Belarus then introduced restrictions according to which Polish carriers cannot use border crossings on the section of the Belarusian border with Lithuania and Latvia.
