Poland will not lift the ban on the import of Ukrainian grain for the time being

The new Polish government will not yet cancel the ban on the import of Ukrainian grain introduced on September 15, 2023.

“We want to help Ukraine, but we need regulations regarding quotas and transitional periods. These are negotiations not only between Poland and Ukraine, but also with the participation of the EU… We have to support the embargo until other terms are agreed upon,” said Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Poland Cheslav Sekerskyi.

In his opinion, a good solution would be to introduce transport licensing, while allowing the use of transit routes for Ukrainian grain outside of Poland.

Sekerskyi recalled that before Christmas he met with the protesters who were blocking the “Medyka-Shehini” checkpoint and found a compromise with them, which made it possible to suspend the farmers’ protest at this checkpoint and unblock the traffic of trucks.
