Polish Orlen may supply 1 billion cubic meters of gas to Ukraine next year

Next year, the Polish energy company Orlen may supply Ukraine with 1 billion cubic meters of gas.

The company is also preparing to buy crude oil from Ukraine. This was stated by Orlen CEO Ireneusz Fafara, Gospodarka Morska reports.

During a press conference, the Orlen CEO stressed that the company is “very interested in Ukraine.”

“Let’s look at investment opportunities in Ukraine. Currently, constant cooperation is our most important priority,” he said.

Fafara noted that “it has practically become a tradition” that every month one gas tanker carrying 100,000 cubic meters of gas is destined for Ukraine.

“We have signed a new agreement for the next three months. I hope that next year it will be 1 billion cubic meters of gas for Ukraine. We are an important, indispensable element of Ukraine’s security in these times,” he stressed.

When asked whether Ukrainian companies will be able to pay for the supplied gas, Fafara recalled that the EU has a project to finance gas purchases for Ukraine, which has not yet entered into force. He noted that Polish banks are also preparing to participate in this process, and the Export Credit Insurance Corporation (KUKE) has prepared a “very advantageous” offer for Ukrainian companies.

Recall that the other day DTEK imported LNG from the USA by sea via Lithuania for the first time. The Gaslog Houston vessel delivered 160 thousand cubic meters of cargo, which is equivalent to approximately 100 million cubic meters of natural gas or 1 TWh (terawatt-hour) of energy.

Earlier, USM reported that Ukrainian Kernel and Polish Orlen signed a Memorandum of Strategic Cooperation.
