Ports of Great Odesa can switch to gas generation
Ports of Odesa region want to recover from cogeneration gas-piston plants.
Oleh Kiper, the head of Odesa Regional Military Administrartion, announced this during the “Odesa Economic Revival Forum”, writes Ukrinform.
According to him, the introduction of gas-fired electricity generation to power the ports is necessary.
“Currently, 70% of energy goes directly to the port, the load is very high. Several ports have already submitted applications for such projects and are now coordinating them with the Ministry of Infrastructure,” Oleh Kiper said.
Previously, USM wrote that in June, Ukraine again started negotiations regarding Turkey’s floating power plants in the ports of Odesa region. It was reported that ships with a capacity of 250 megawatts can be placed in the ports of Odesa, Pivdennyi and Izmail.
It is known that similar negotiations with Turkey regarding floating power plants were held in 2022 and 2023.
So, in December 2022, the Turkish company Karpowership changed its mind to base generator vessels near Odesa. The decision was influenced by the fact that Odesa could not guarantee the safety of the ships to the company either.
