Production of Tesla, Geely and Ikea is suffering due to Houthi attacks on ships in the Red Sea
Tesla is suspending most of its car production at a factory in Germany for two weeks. The reason is the crisis in the Red Sea.
“Due to a lack of components, we are forced to suspend car production at the Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg from January 29 to February 11, with the exception of a few units,” the company said in a statement published by DW.
Tesla attributed the shortage of components to a change in ship routes caused by attacks by Iran-backed Yemeni Houthis on ships in the Red Sea.
Tesla is said to be the first company to announce a production halt due to a supply chain disruption. However, Chinese automaker Geely and Swedish furniture company Ikea also warned of delivery delays.
