Protesters in Georgia block road to Poti port
Georgian protesters blocked the access road to the country’s main commercial port in the Black Sea city of Poti.
Outside the capital, demonstrators blocked the access road to the Black Sea port of Poti, Reuters reported.
Reuters was unable to verify how accessible the port remains.
The Poti port is owned and operated by APM Terminals, the Dutch unit of Danish shipping company Maersk. It is Georgia’s largest seaport, handling 80% of the country’s container traffic.
Georgian media reported protests in at least eight cities and towns. Opposition TV channel Formula showed footage of people in Khashuri, a town of 20,000 in central Georgia, pelting the local office of the Georgian Dream party with eggs.
The protests flared up again after the Georgian government announced on November 28 that it would freeze talks with the EU for four years.
USM previously reported that Spanish farmers staged a protest against the import of Ukrainian grain.
