Repair of the bridge connecting the ports of Izmail and Kiliya has been completed in the Odesa region

In the Odesa region, the repair of the bridge across the Kofa Canal, which connects the ports of Izmail and Kiliya, has been completed.

This was  reported by the Restoration Agency.

The artificial structure is of strategic importance for the logistics infrastructure of the region. The restoration of the bridge will ensure stable transport connections between the Izmail and Kiliya districts.

Mykola Boyko, First Deputy Head of the Restoration Agency, explained that this is critically important for the prompt movement of emergency services, school transport, civil and freight transportation. The bridge was put into operation – a corresponding certificate was received. During the implementation of the project, it was possible to save about UAH 60 million, which will be used to restore other infrastructure facilities.

The bridge was in a state of emergency. Due to critical wear and tear, traffic was completely stopped in 2021, and the distance between the cities of Kiliya and Izmail increased to 140 km for the period of the closure. Thanks to the restoration of the bridge, this distance has been reduced to 40 km, which allows you to reduce travel time by three times.

The structure was also completely reconstructed: new supports and span structures were installed, reinforcement and concreting were performed, a barrier fence was installed, a new asphalt concrete coating was laid both on the bridge and on the approaches to it. In addition, road markings were applied, modern road signs were installed, drainage was performed, the curb was strengthened, and the landscaping of the adjacent territory was completed.

We remind you that the old bridge was built in the 1960s. In 2021, due to its emergency condition, it was closed to all types of vehicles.
