Romania and Ukraine to strengthen coordination over drone incident in Constanta port

Romania and Ukraine are discussing a joint protocol to prevent incidents similar to the explosion of a Ukrainian naval drone in the port of Constanta.
This was stated by Romanian Foreign Minister Oana Coiu, Digi24 reports.
According to her, after the discovery of a drone in the port, the defense ministries of Romania and Ukraine began consultations on mechanisms that should reduce the risk of recurrence of such cases.
In particular, the parties are discussing the creation of a mutual alert system about potential threats. Ukraine should inform the Romanian side in cases of loss of communication or control over naval drones.
The possibility of programming drones in such a way that in case of loss of control they explode before entering Romanian territorial waters is also being discussed.
According to Coiu, the joint protocol should provide for timely exchange of information, mechanisms for preventing such incidents and coordination of further actions between the two countries.
As a reminder, earlier a naval drone exploded in the port of Constanta, which, according to Romanian authorities, lost control and ended up in the country’s territorial waters.
