Romania may monitor ceasefire in Black Sea

Romania is already part of the Black Sea mine clearance group and is also ready to monitor the ceasefire in the region.

This was stated by Romanian MP Stefan Cinta at the Black Sea Security Forum.

“An open Black Sea is a prerequisite for the economic development of three continents. And Romania clearly understands its role in this security architecture. We have already established a joint naval mine clearance group with Bulgaria and Turkey. Romania is ready to monitor the ceasefire in the Black Sea,” he said.

Cinta noted that the Black Sea is becoming an increasingly important energy hub for Europe, with important energy infrastructure projects in Romanian waters, as well as similar large offshore gas fields in Bulgarian and Turkish waters.

“With the largest port on the Black Sea in Constanta, in fact the second largest in Europe, with future gas development in the “Neptune Depth”, with energy and transport corridors crossing Romania to and from Turkey and Central Asia, Romania has a strong interest in a free, safe and open Black Sea, which will promote economic growth throughout the region,” the MP said.

Earlier, USM reported that Canada is ready to help Ukraine with the demining of the Black Sea.
