Russia has transshipped oil near northern Africa for the first time since April
After a four-month break, Russia has again transshipped oil between tankers off the Mediterranean coast in North Africa.
The vessel Tiburon collected about 100,000 tonnes of Russian Urals oil, originally loaded at the Baltic port of Ust-Luga, from the similarly sized vessel Lucia during the past week. This is reported by Bloomberg.
“The transshipment was the first since early April, thus reviving logistics work that has been critical to Russia’s oil supply chain since the European Union’s ban on crude oil purchases that began late last year,” the paper writes.
Tiburon is currently sailing to Egypt’s Suez Canal, but has not revealed its final destination. The main Asian buyers are in China and India. Lucia heading back towards the Baltic Sea.
Both tankers are relatively old, Lucia built in 2003 and Tiburon two years later.
