Russia is again trying to obstruct the operation of the Ukrainian maritime corridor
Russia has announced the closure of a zone of maritime space in the Black Sea allegedly for “military exercises”.
Thus, the zone begins from the Kerch Strait, skirting the coast of the occupied Crimea approximately to Cape Tarkhankut and from it to the estuary of the Danube.
As Andriy Klymenko, head of the Monitoring Group of the Institute of Black Sea Strategic Studies, reported with reference to Mykhailo Honchar, “in a hybrid way, they are trying to block the existing corridor, which functions thanks to the Armed Forces.”
In general, the district was “closed” on New Year’s Eve for the period from 21:00 on December 31, 2023 to 21:00 on March 31, 2024.
“The plan of the rashists is probably the following – to conduct “training” on the practice of aerial placement of sea mines (Su-24M) and it is clear that sooner or later some ship will run into such a mine. This will have a negative impact on the operation of the corridor – freight rates, insurance, etc. will skyrocket,” the experts noted.
