Russia may launch drones into the Black Sea to mine the grain corridor

Russia may soon release naval drones into the Black Sea, which will bypass the Ukrainian grain corridor.

Andrii Klymenko, head of the Monitoring Group of the Institute of Black Sea Strategic Studies, announced this.

According to him, now Russia is very actively engaged in maritime drones. The expert believes that soon these drones may start operating in the Black Sea.

The greatest danger of these drones is that they can carry Russian sea mines and covertly mine the recommended traffic routes of commercial vessels to or from the ports of Greater Odessa.

In addition, the Russians can carry out similar operations “under a foreign flag.” Before February 24, 2022, several thousand sea mines, both Ukrainian and Russian, were placed in the northwestern region of the Black Sea.

Two and a half years have passed, mines are being torn from their mounts. So if a mine laid by a naval drone blows up a civilian bulker, the Russians will claim that it happened because of Ukrainian sea mines.

Andriy Klymenko emphasized that in order to protect the Black Sea, it is necessary to reduce the missile potential of Crimea, strengthen the fight against sea mines and involve neighboring countries in this. It is also necessary to introduce surface patrolling of the western sector of the Black Sea not only by minesweepers, but also by patrol ships and corvettes.
