Russia must pay $5 billion in compensation to Naftogaz

The Hague court ordered russia to pay compensation to Naftogaz. In 2014, the terrorist country seized the company’s gas drilling rigs and special fleet, and now has to cover the damages.

Russia was ordered to pay $5 billion in compensation for seized Naftogaz assets. This decision was made by the Arbitration Tribunal at the Permanent Chamber of the Arbitration Court in The Hague on Wednesday, April 12.

The court established that the amount of compensation should be equal to the market value of Naftogaz assets at the time of their seizure.

As a reminder, we are talking about drilling rigs “Petro Godovanets”, “Ukraine”, “Tavrida” and “Syvash”. It is worth noting that before the occupation, Ukraine managed to invest about 12 billion dollars in towers.

Now, on each of the four stolen platforms, the russian military has installed means of radio-electronic intelligence and combat. In addition, russian ships hide behind the towers from Ukrainian anti-ship missiles. However, the Armed Forces managed to target one of the captured installations, the fire on it lasted for more than a month .

Note that arbitration decisions can be enforced. Thus, in the event of russia’s refusal to voluntarily pay compensation, Naftogaz has the right to start enforcement of the decision on the territory of those states where russian assets are located.
