Russia strengthens Northern Fleet with new boat “Grachonok”
A ceremony to commission a new anti-sabotage boat was held at the base of the Russian Kolska Flotilla.
The Russians have commissioned another anti-sabotage boat of project 21980 “Grachonok” at the base of the Kolska Flotilla of the Northern Fleet. This is reported by Russian media.
This boat officially became part of the detachment “for combating underwater sabotage forces and means” of the Northern Fleet, the Russian Defense Ministry reports.
The project 21980 boat is designed to counter sabotage underwater, as well as support the actions of combat sailors within the bases and on the approaches to them. In addition, the ship can detect underwater objects and track their movement.
The strengthening of the Russian Northern Fleet, despite its geographical remoteness, is a signal of the Kremlin’s desire to strengthen control over the Arctic. Yes, Russia continues to demonstrate militarization in various strategic directions, which requires international control and increased sanctions pressure.
The day before, USM wrote that two Russian ships were spotted in the waters of the Baltic Sea near Denmark and Sweden.
