Russia wants to restore navan bases in Crimea

Russia is trying to expand its naval bases in the annexed Crimea.

Currently, russian federation is restoring the Navy base in Balaklava, which was used during the Cold War to store and hide submarines, NavalNews reports.

It is emphasized that the isolated bay of Balaklava is ideal for the development of additional infrastructure. Russian mass media previously reported on the possibility of restoring the Soviet base, which has already been turned into a museum. However, signs of repair work at the facility began to appear only now.

It is currently unknown what kind of ships and what capacity can be stationed at the base in Balaklava. At the same time, they estimate that the location can become a satellite base for Sevastopol.

Work is also underway at the base of the Black Sea Fleet in Sevastopol. The base of FSB patrol ships was located there. It is not known whether the FSB will remain there after the modernization of the base.

The new berth in Sevastopol could have been planned earlier, but work on the facility began after February 24: the area was cleared and prepared for construction.
