Russia will continue to attack underwater infrastructure in the Baltics, intelligence says

Moscow’s ability to use civilian and specialized vessels in the Baltic region for pressure and sabotage remains significant.
Russia is likely to continue operations against underwater communications in the Baltic Sea. Finland’s military intelligence warns about this, Yle writes.
The published review notes that with the growth of the capabilities of the Russian armed forces in the medium term, the risks to the northwestern direction will also increase.
At the same time, in 2026, the immediate military threat to Finland is assessed as low – the main forces of the Russian Federation are tied up in the war against Ukraine.
Recall that the threat assessment is taking place against the backdrop of incidents with damage to underwater cables and energy infrastructure in the Baltic Sea. The latest case is a large-scale outage on the Danish Bornholm on January 21 after the cable connecting the island with Sweden failed.
Against the backdrop of these events, NATO countries launched the Baltic Sentry mission — patrolling key areas to protect underwater infrastructure and deter sabotage activity.
Earlier, USM reported that Russians were spying on the coast of Norway under the guise of fishermen and tourists.
