Russia withdraws all submarines from the Mediterranean Sea

There are no Russian Navy submarines left in the Mediterranean Sea.

After the fall of the regime of dictator Bashar al-Assad in Syria, the Russians withdrew a significant number of ships from the port of Tartus, reports “Militarnyi”

The last Russian submarine left the Mediterranean Sea on January 2. Previously, there were no surface or underwater Russian ships left in the port of Tartus.

The submarine “Novorossiysk” became the last Russian ship to leave the Mediterranean Sea. It left at night through the Strait of Gibraltar, which was confirmed by the Portuguese Navy.

It is currently unknown whether the withdrawal of Russian ships from the region is final or just part of a planned rotation. The port of Tartus in Syria was the only base of the Russian military fleet in the Mediterranean. Whether the Russian Federation will be able to continue to use the port depends on relations between the aggressor country and the new Syrian administration.

USM previously reported that the “Sparta” ship reached the coast of Syria to take out Russian military equipment.
