Russian hackers attacked a port in Japan
As a result of a cyber attack by the Russian hacking group LockBit 3.0, Japan’s largest cargo port, Nagoya, was out of service for three days.
The majority of export-import operations are carried out by the Toyota Motor company through this port, Reuters writes. On Tuesday, July 4, the port suffered a ransomware attack and was unable to handle containers.
According to a representative of the Port Authority, the message that the computer system was infected with ransomware was somehow sent to the printer. In turn, the hackers demanded a ransom in exchange for restoring its operation.
Currently, the port does not load and unload containers. They plan to resume work by the evening of July 6, and the company plans to fully return to export-import operations on July 7.
It is worth noting that the port of Nagoya is the main port for exporting and importing Toyota. The automaker said it was unable to load or unload auto parts and cars due to the outage, but the company emphasized that there were no disruptions to its production or disruptions to the logistics of finished vehicles.
