Russian “sailboat Peter the Great” entered Irish port without permission

The Standard sailboat entered an Irish fishing port without warning. Law enforcement officers have launched an investigation.

The Irish Coast Guard and the Department of Transport have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the overnight arrival of the Standard, a replica of the frigate Peter I, at Port Oriel near Clogherhead, writes Maritime Executive.

The incident occurred on the night of July 9. The vessel arrived from French waters, where it was traditionally not allowed into ports, and was heading to Scotland to participate in the Tall Ships Race.

The Standard entered an Irish harbor without a prior request for mooring, which violates internal procedures. According to the crew, the stop was forced – to replenish fresh water supplies.

The Irish Department of Transport and the Navy confirmed that they were tracking the vessel as part of their usual procedures. The authorities are currently awaiting a report from the local council on the events in Port Oriel. At the same time, no final conclusions have yet been made about the violation of sanctions.

Also, the day before, USM wrote that the EU is preparing to lower the price cap for Russian oil.
