Russian ship anchors near vessel that could damage cables in the Baltic Sea
The Russian missile corvette Mercury has anchored in the Kattegat Strait, near the “Yi Peng 3”, which is believed to have damaged two underwater cables.
The ship is anchored and is likely monitoring the situation with the suspected sabotage Chinese vessel “Yi Peng 3”, Gospodarka Morska reports, citing Finnish media.
The Chinese vessel is currently in the strait under the supervision of the Danish patrol vessel HDMS Hvidbjoernen.
The exact location of the Russian ship Mercury is unknown – its AIS is turned off. The Finnish newspaper was able to confirm its presence with the help of sources. The newspaper quotes Milosz Gapinski, a Polish military expert, who suggests that the Mercury may have been ordered to stay in the area and monitor the situation on the Yi Peng 3 or simply stand guard as a show of force.

Earlier, USM reported that two NATO underwater cables were damaged in the Baltic Sea.
Initially, information appeared about a malfunction of the C-Lion1 submarine cable, which is stretched between Finland and Germany. Later, it became known about damage to the submarine cable between Lithuania and Sweden. This reduced the Internet bandwidth of Telia, which transmits the connection to Lithuania, by a third.
Shortly before the sabotage of two NATO submarine cables in the Baltic Sea, near critical facilities, a Chinese ship was spotted.
It also later turned out that the captain of the Chinese ship, which is suspected of damaging the submarine cables, was a Russian.
