Russian ships are probably loading weapons in African countries

Russia probably began to collect weapons in African countries, in order to then transport them from there by ships of the “Syrian Express”.

Ships belonging to the Russian Federation have probably started collecting weapons in African countries, reports the “Crimean Wind” monitoring group.

Thus, the former member of the “Syrian Express”, the Russian ship Ascalon, which left Novorossiysk empty a few weeks ago, is bypassing African ports. The current point is off the coast of Sierra Leone.

“Syrian Express” is a conventional designation of regular trips of Russian amphibious ships to Syria to supply weapons and ammunition to the local armed forces. According to official data, the ships were carrying “special cargo”. The choice of amphibious ships is justified by the impossibility of third countries detaining them and subjecting them to inspection. Since 2015, the Navy of the Russian Federation additionally began to use dry cargoes purchased from Turkey and Ukraine for cargo delivery.

After the start of a full-scale war against Ukraine, Russian ships began to transport weapons and ammunition in the reverse direction – from Syria to the Russian Federation.

USM previously reported that Turkey has stopped allowing ships that can transport military cargo to the Russian Federation through the Bosphorus. Therefore, Russia began to send ships to bypass the strait through the waters of the European Union.
