Russian ships arrived in Cuba for the second time

Three ships of the Russian Federation entered the territorial waters of Cuba, which indicates the strengthening of cooperation between the countries.

Three Russian ships arrived in Cuba on July 27. This is the second such flight by Moscow to the island state in the past few months, Politico reports.

The naval group, consisting of a training ship, a patrol frigate and a refueling tanker, is expected to remain in the Cuban port of Havana until July 30.

Representatives of the Ministry of Defense of Cuba called the arrival of Russian warships a “historic practice” and a manifestation of “friendship and cooperation.” But neither government has clarified the purpose of this latest deployment.

American officials are closely monitoring the situation. Experts consider the “Caribbean tour” of Russian ships a symbolic demonstration of force in response to the support of Ukraine by the USA and the West.

It will be recalled that at the beginning of June, the Russian Federation sent four ships to Cuba – in particular, the frigate “Admiral Gorshkov” and the nuclear submarine “Kazan”. Then, for the first time since 2019, the Kremlin announced joint exercises of the navies of the Russian Federation and Cuba. They will last until the end of summer.
