Russian ships will not be able to enter American ports for another year

On Thursday, April 17, US President Donald Trump’s executive order extending sanctions against Russia took effect.

The sanctions prohibit vessels associated with Russia from entering American ports, according to a document posted in the US Federal Register.

“The policies and actions of the government of the Russian Federation maintain a national emergency by disrupting or threatening to disrupt the international relations of the United States. Therefore, in accordance with Section 202(d) of the National Emergencies Act, I am extending for one year the national emergency regarding the Russian Federation, as well as the emergency related to the regulation of the anchorage and movement of vessels affiliated with Russia in ports of the United States,” the document states.

The executive order officially took effect on Thursday, April 17.

Recall that the US introduced a ban on the entry of Russian vessels into its ports on April 21, 2022. This decision was announced by President Joe Biden in response to Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Earlier it became known that the US is proposing to confiscate oil from tankers of Russia’s “shadow fleet”.
