The media noted that Russia had sent a number of river-sea cargo ships to the shores of West Africa. Usually, such vessels do not operate in this region.

“Several Russian dry cargo ships of the river-sea type roam the waters of Africa and the Middle East, mainly West Africa, which is quite unusual both in terms of number and nature. Vessels of this type should not carry out transportation on the high seas, let alone the oceans,” Fleetmon notes.

Fleetmon adds that the vessels’ AIS records have been compromised and the flight history is missing. In the comments, the publication was reminded that Russia may be looking for new markets for the import of weapons there or is building new relations with African countries.

However, even such vessels can find plenty of work carrying local cargo – one Fleetmon reader said he had seen such vessels in South America carrying buses down the river on their decks.

In addition, the publication informs that an unusually large number of Russian ro-ro vessels have gathered in Indian waters.

“What this has to do with is anyone’s guess,” Fleetmon summed up.
