Russian “Sovcomflot” accepted the first tanker that was completely built in russian federation

“Sovcomflot” took delivery of the first Aframax LNG tanker, which was fully financed and built in russia.

The new ship, named “Okeansky Prospekt”, was built at the State Enterprise “Zirka Shipyard” with the funds of the russian State Development Corporation “VEB.rf”. The new vessel will be registered in russia and will be chartered by Rosneft, writes Fleetmon.

The vessel belongs to class 1A/1B. This means that it will be able to transport oil all year round, despite icy conditions.

“Sovcomflot” is not going through the best of times after it came under Western sanctions. The company sold several vessels in April and May to reduce its financial exposure, and canceled an order for three Arctic gas carriers at South Korea’s DSME shipyard as it became difficult to make installment payments on the vessels.
