Russian warships and vessels are heading to Syria, – Defense Intelligence
The naval base in the Syrian city of Tartus, the Russians are waiting for their warships to export military equipment and weapons to Africa.
On Sunday, January 5, Russian large landing ships are scheduled to arrive in the Syrian port, the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense reports.
These are the ships Ivan Gren and Alexander Otrakovsky, as well as the dry cargo ship Sparta. They are currently on their way to Tartus in the Mediterranean Sea.
“On board the ship Alexander Otrakovskyi is the chief of staff of the 121st brigade of landing ships of the aggressor state’s fleet, Captain 1st Rank Davityan Yurii,” the Defense Intelligence notes.
Also, on January 8, two more Russian ships are scheduled to enter Tartus: the universal cargo ship Sparta II and the tanker Ivan Skobelev, which are currently planning to cross the Strait of Gibraltar.
The department emphasized that the Russians plan to use the Sparta and Sparta II cargo ships to transport military equipment and weapons from Syria to Libya.
As previously reported by USM, the heads of European foreign ministries will discuss the fate of the Russian base in Tartus with the new Syrian authorities.
