Russia’s actions slowed down the movement of vessels through the “grain corridor” by half

Russia deliberately delays the passage of ships with Ukrainian grain. Such actions reduced the rate of transportation of food along the “grain corridor” by half.

Ukrinform writes that Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield, the permanent representative of the USA to this organization, made such a statement at the meeting of the UN Security Council.

“Operations within this initiative are not keeping up with the high global demand for Black Sea grain due to russia’s deliberate slowing down of inspections. Dozens of ships are waiting to be shipped, dozens of others are waiting for inspections to be able to deliver their grain cargo,” said the US representative.

Thomas-Greenfield reminded that the Black Sea Initiative provides for the transportation of at least 5 million tons of food per month. However, russia is artificially causing delays, which lead to additional costs, as well as the delay of millions of tons of grain, most of which is destined for developing countries.

The US representative emphasized that now 2.5 million tons of grain are just waiting to be shipped, some ships have been idle for over a month.

“Grain moves twice as slowly as in September and October,” Thomas-Greenfield emphasized.

In this regard, she appealed to other members of the UN Security Council to jointly call on russia to immediately expand cooperation within the framework of the Black Sea Agreement.
