Russia’s largest shipbuilding corporation is laying off workers due to financial problems

Russian “USC” is launching another wave of “optimization”, having already dismissed 5% of support staff in the first stage.
At the shipbuilding enterprise “Vympel” in Rybinsk, which is part of the “United Shipbuilding Corporation” (USC), mass layoffs have begun. This is reported by Russian media.
The reason for this is financial difficulties. According to estimates by the Russian Ministry of Finance, the deficit of funds of “USC” exceeds 1 trillion rubles.
The first wave of layoffs affected about 5% of employees, mainly from the support staff, while the production staff has not yet been touched.
The management explains the initiative for the cuts by the “lack of orders” and the desire to optimize costs. The “optimization” program is planned to be extended until the end of the year if the financial situation cannot be corrected.
As USM previously reported, Russia’s shipbuilding program is failing: a shortage of components, outdated projects, and sanctions are crippling the industry.
