Russia’s old fleet could cause a fishing crisis in the aggressor country

Today, the Russian naval fleet of industrial vessels is 820-830 units, and 65% of them are already over 30 years old.

We are talking about industrial fishing in the Black and Azov Seas, the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine reports.

“Russian fishermen have every chance of being left without work, and the population of the country, which directs funds to the war machine against Ukraine, without fish. The reason is the cessation of fishing due to the limitation of the fleet’s service life,” the report says.

Today, the Russian naval fleet of industrial vessels is 820-830 units, and 65% of them are already over 30 years old, 13% are over 40 years old. By 2030, the total number of vessels over 40 years old will be 533 units.

“So the vast majority of the current fishing fleet, even with major modernization, will not be able to fully operate. The formal reason for stopping fishing is the ban on access to Russian seaports for all vessels over 40 years old from January 1, 2030,” the department emphasized.

In particular, fishing enterprises fishing in the Azov-Black Sea basin do not fall under any government fleet renewal program. Prices for fish products in the region are the lowest in Russia, so they do not allow local fishermen to buy new vessels.
