“Sailor’s documents” were sold to evaders in Odesa: SBU detained officials (video)
In Odesa, the Security Service detained officials who were selling “sailor’s licenses”, which allowed evaders to travel abroad.
The SBU has eliminated another scheme to evade mobilization and illegal travel abroad in the Odesa region, the agency reported.
The law enforcement officers detained two criminals: an employee of the Izmail Sea Port, as well as an official of the Danube Qualification Commission of the Shipping Administration.
For money, the officials offered the evaders to leave Ukraine as shipmasters of merchant vessels. For this purpose, the participants “helped” their clients “guaranteed” to pass the exam for obtaining the relevant qualification.
The cost of such “services” ranged from 700 to 1.2 thousand dollars. The amount depended on the availability of primary skills in maritime affairs and financial capabilities of the petitioner.
Thus, corrupt officials “earned” almost 2 million hryvnia equivalent. The SBU detained both persons involved in the transfer of illegal benefits.
Detainees were informed of suspicion under Part 3 of Art. 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (acceptance of an offer, promise or receipt of an illegal benefit by an official).
The suspects are currently in custody. An investigation is ongoing to establish all the circumstances of the crime. Perpetrators face up to 10 years in prison.
