Sanctioned ship unloads Russian oil at Indian port owned by Adani

The EU-sanctioned tanker Prometei (IMO:9296597) is unloading oil at the Indian port of Mundra.

This is the first such incident since the Adani Group banned sanctioned vessels from entering its terminals, Reuters reports.

According to ship tracking data, the Prometei tanker, which is carrying about 260,000 barrels of Russian oil, is unloading at the port of Mundra for HPCL-Mittal Energy.

According to Kpler, the oil was loaded at the Russian Baltic port of Ust-Luga on September 22.

At the same time, this is the first tanker to enter the port of Mundra since the Adani Group, owned by billionaire Gautam Adani, banned the entry of sanctioned vessels into its ports from September 11 this year.

According to LSEG, in October, the volume of Russian oil shipped from Indian ports amounted to about 185,000 tons. Most of it is still at sea. As previously reported by USM, in late October 2025, India’s largest refinery resumed purchases of Russian oil from non-sanctioned companies.
