Sanctioned tanker with Russian oil in India changes port due to entry ban

The Noble Walker tanker, carrying about a million barrels of Russian oil for HPCL Mittal Energy, changed course and entered the port of Vadinar.

This happened after the Adani Group banned the entry of sanctioned ships into its Mundra port, Reuters reports.

The Noble Walker is on the EU and UK sanctions list for violating sanctions related to the transportation of Russian oil. Indian refineries such as HMEL and Indian Oil Corp traditionally use the Adani Group ports to import oil, including Russian.

India, the largest importer of Russian oil after Western sanctions, is tightening control over ships and transactions related to supplies from Russia. Another sanctioned tanker, the Spartan, carrying 1 million barrels of Russian oil, remained at the roadstead near Mundra, waiting to unload.

As a reminder, the Indian port previously banned the entry of ships under US, EU and British sanctions.
