A signal to putin: a nuclear submarine of the US Navy entered European waters
The American superpower nuclear submarine USS Rhode Island entered European waters in response to russian nuclear blackmail.
The American nuclear submarine USS Rhode Island has been spotted in the Mediterranean Sea. The submarine arrived in Gibraltar on November 1, accompanying the newest nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford, Ukrinform reports.
USS Rhode Island belongs to the Ohio-class submarines, the largest American strategic nuclear submarines of the third generation.
Boats of the “Ohio” type form the basis of the strategic offensive nuclear forces of the United States. For the past 20 years, this is the only type of missile carrier in service with the US Navy. Currently, 14 of the 18 submarines of the series are armed with 24 intercontinental ballistic missiles of the Trident system. Each of the separate parts of the warhead is equipped with an individual guidance system. Trident II warheads make up 52% of the US nuclear arsenal and 100% of the UK nuclear arsenal.
USS Rhode Island is the 15th in a series of 18 third-generation Ohio-class nuclear submarines. The submarine was adopted by the US Navy in 1994. The boat can carry 24 Trident II intercontinental missiles, which are capable of hitting targets at a distance of up to 11,000 km with a maximum speed of more than 24,000 km/h.
The presence of nuclear submarines in Gibraltar is a signal from the US to putin to restrain his intentions to use tactical nuclear weapons in the war against Ukraine.
