Solskyi: the continuation of the “Grain Initiative” will strengthen global food security

Due to the “Grain Initiative”, it has already been possible to export almost 25 million tons of Ukrainian agricultural products, of which 6.9 million tons were wheat.

Continuation of the “grain initiative” is an opportunity for Ukraine to remain one of the main agrarian countries, said the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Mykola Solskyi . According to him, the Ukrainian farmer will now “sow” and be able to receive income from his harvest.

“For the world, it’s strengthening food security, it’s an opportunity to feed hundreds of millions of people who depend on Ukraine. I am grateful to all international partners, friends of Ukraine, who at all meetings emphasized the importance of extending the export agreement and thus supported us,” added Solskyi.

He also emphasized that thanks to the “Grain initiative” it was already possible to export almost 25 million tons of Ukrainian agricultural products, of which 6.9 million tons were wheat. At the same time, 20% of the shipped wheat was sent to African countries. 2.67 million tons of grain, or 43%, were shipped to the poorest countries and those with below-average income.

“We sent almost half a million tons of wheat within the framework of the humanitarian food programs of the UN and Grain from Ukraine. So the new 120 days of the agreement is an opportunity to continue these important projects for needy countries and thereby save the world from hunger,” the minister summarized.

USM previously reported that the validity term of the Black sea Grain Initiative was extented for another 120 days.
